“No More Mondays”

April 30, 2025

Our head clerk retired from the post office yesterday after 37 years!
The bees in the hive are buzzing around now with myriad fears
They say everyone is replaceable that’s why your family is first
Having serious doubts she’s replaceable, she was a big cog in our machine, this hurts
She’s the one who knew all the schemes
If someone had a question of how to do things the right way or what was what, “Just go ask Debra…” was a common theme
Learning over and over again recently you never know what you have until it’s gone
Wishing Debra the happiest of life after her postal career, like Neo in the Matrix, when she rearranged the missorted letters, we realized she was The One

*I changed horses midstream December 1st 2021 from the office setting of a trucking company after ten years doing data input and answering phones, basically a secretary. I then moved to the oversize overweight permit department working with The State. I started my new career at the USPS as a CCA which means “City Carrier Assistant”.

It was Christmas time. Towards the end of the month Debra had baked and hand crafted goodie bags for everybody at our branch of the giant tree that is the American Post Office. Each goodie bag contained an assortment of various treats, each a universe of deliciousness. Although I had just started there and was brand new on the totem pole at the very bottom I still received a goodie bag. Christmas Spirit? Maybe, but when I told Debra how much I appreciated that gesture yesterday and how it made me feel included and welcomed she said, “Well, I was taught you never leave anybody out”.
