an old timer once told me people go back out and drink again it’s because they worked their steps backwards

Not a comment, but something I have to share. I lived on a smallish Island off Miami for many of my drinking years, in fact, some of my worst drinking years. I was a reporter for the local newspaper so I was everywhere, at every party and function. It seemed like everyone who wasn’t a tourist knew me. But one day I had enough. I was dating a guy who didn’t drink but never talked about it. But that day I said I had had enough and asked him why he didn’t drink. He said he, too, had enough one day three years previously, and got sober in AA. He asked if I wanted to go to a meeting that night and I said yes. Later, we walked into a local church fellowship hall. It was full of people I knew or recognized. All of a sudden people started yelling out, Robin, we’ve been waiting for you! I knew then I was home. That night was almost 36 years ago, and I’ve been sober every moment… gratefully sober, happily sober. I hope everyone seeking sobriety sticks it out long enough to receive this gift from all the former drunks

I always heard “be where your feet are” meaning stay in the present, not the past, not the future. I was going to get a bee tattoo on the top of my foot as a reminder but decided I’m too old for that
compared to being in the past or in the future. Stay in the present. But I always heard be where your feet are – which hopefully is also in motion, in service, doing for others

AA is not a hotbed of mental health. lol AA is great for getting people sober. Many of us have issues that need therapy
