Abduction

  • This found poem is the tracklist to my old friend Derek Karlquist’s new album “Abduction” under his artist name “d_goods” which was put out by the UK based Noided record label.

Here’s a link to his link tree:

Here are four links to this album found on that link tree:

  1. Bandcamp
  1. Spotify
  1. Apple Music
  1. YouTube:

Here’s what the artist had to say about his album taken from his Bandcamp page:

“I recorded this album entirely on my modular synth and almost entirely all to 2-track, only using the computer for capturing, edits and mastering.”

Here’s what his record label Noided had to say about this album:

“Los Angeles-based producer and audio engineer d_goods steps into the spotlight with his debut album, a raw and immersive journey into modular synthesis. After spending over 20 years working behind the scenes in major studios, primarily in rock and pop, d_goods now brings his deep passion for synthesis to the forefront.

This album was crafted entirely on modular synth, embracing a performance-driven approach that captures the energy and unpredictability of the moment. The result is a gripping sci-fi soundscape that tells the story of aliens revealing themselves, conducting mass abductions, and one character’s ultimate escape into space.

An immersive record that pulses and punches in equal measure.”

Here’s what I have to say about “found poetry” and my personal experience of d_goods “Abduction” full length 21 track hour long ethereal extravaganza musical masterpiece work of art:

I received a physical copy in the mail earlier this month. It actually came from England, so it came from the Royal Mail. Monarchial Mail.

I hadn’t even listened to the album yet and I was already fascinated and inspired. Art inspires art, or at least thought. I love the artwork, psychedelic. Man even the tracklist is a “found poem” containing worlds of thought in each title!

What is a “found poem”? That means I saw some words and thought, “Hmmm, that’s actually a poem!” It’s kind of like taking a picture. You see something and think, “Hmmm, that’s interesting and beautiful” and use your eyes to put something in a frame.

I first became friends and a fan of Derek back In high school. My close friend Joe Santo was the drummer for his high school band “Hy-Pon”. I have good memories of sitting in a garage listening to them rehearse while I played Nintendo 64’s “Mario Tennis” and discovered the character Waluigi was where It was at because of his larger racket. This was In 2001 so In the garage there were band’s of the time plastered on the walls for Inspiration. (I don’t know why my phone capitalizes every word with an “I” or how to turn off this “feature”. I tried In the past and It keeps coming back whomp whomp) Bands that stick out there were on the garage wall are “System of a Down”, “Static X”, “Powerman 5000”, and “The Deftones”. Hy-Pon was heavily influenced by The Deftones which explains why they were and listening back still are incredible! I think this stuff holds up! Teenagers and people in their twenties have a way of expressing themselves with their songs of innocence that seem to ring eternal to the human condition. Also, I hope to one day to be able to play electric guitar the way Derek figured out how to as a teenager roughly 24 years ago! Time Is Winged.

Came to the realization that I’ve been a taper for a good amount of time today. “Taper” is a kind word for “bootlegger”. “Bootleg Taper” means lo-fi amateur hour. I have included links to a show I videotaped circa 2001 of Hy-Pon at one of their shows at Club Bene in South Amboy, NJ on Route 35. God, the lyrics to the first song on this bootleg I STILL love:

“Through the air I feel free
Beauty defines what this meant to me
Don’t want it to end
Mistakes are hard to correct”

Derek and I also worked at the Arts Center together in Holmdel, NJ for Aramark. I was running kegs of beer though while Derek was running the kitchen, managing.

But that’s old stuff, this new “d_goods” album is truly D GOODS man! Each track a little universe, as a whole album it just flows and has a vibe. It’s a true work of art. I really can’t believe he only used two tracks for each track! It’s just so layered and full. It’s quite the journey. Thank you Derek! Love it!!! 💗 🎶
